Getting Started
This documentation provides a set of specifications for the exchange of transcripts between educational institutions and OCAS. Here you will find documentation on the various services OCAS provides to its different partners, and not all documentation is relevant to all partners.
Note: the contents in this site are a collection of previously communicated specifications over the last 12 years. Apologies for the inconsistencies in style and format as this documentation continues to be updated.
For specifications related to High School Transcript exchange, see the High School section.
For specifications related to College and University Transcript exchange, see the Post-Secondary section.
Transcript Exchange in Ontario
The following exchanges are supported by OCAS among the various educational institutions in Ontario:
Ontario Colleges
OCAS sends transcript requests on behalf of college applicants as well as university applicants to colleges to fulfill. OCAS also sends college and university transcripts to colleges in support of applications to college.
Colleges play both a supplier and consumer role in the exchange of transcripts. Transcript exchange can be done though a Secure FTP site or through the eTMS Partner API.
Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) and Universities
OCAS sends transcript requests on behalf of college applicants to universities to fulfill by way of OUAC which acts as a hub for the universities. OCAS also sends college transcripts to universities in support of applications to university.
Univerities play both a supplier and consumer role in the exchange of transcripts. Transcript exchange for OUAC is done though a Secure FTP site.
Additionally, OCAS provides a service called My Student Record that is a portal for Ontario University applicants (that are not currently attending high school) to pay for and submit their transcript requests to Ontario High Schools.
Ontario High Schools and School Boards
OCAS sends transcript requests on behalf of college applicants as well as university applicants to high schools and school boards to fulfill.
High Schools and School Boards play a supplier role in the exchange of transcripts. Transcript exchange can be done though a real-time web service exchange called Auto-eTMS or through the eTMS Portal.
These services are designed for retrieving transcripts when an applicant is no longer attending high school.
For students presently attending high school, schools and boards supply high school grade/transcript data to both OCAS and OUAC directly outside of the scope of transcript requests.
First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI)
OCAS sends transcript requests on behalf of FNTI applicants to colleges and high schools and provides the transcripts back to FNTI. This is done through a My Student Record portal for FNTI staff.
